Overall AI Talent: Women comprise only about 22% of the global AI talent pool.
Senior Executive Roles: This representation drops to less than 14% or even less than 15% when considering senior executive positions in AI. Underrepresentation in Leadership: The gender gap in AI is more pronounced than in the overall workforce, with women less likely to hold leadership positions. AI
Workforce: A recent study found that 71% of AI-skilled workers are men and 29% are women. AI Ph.D. Graduates: In 2021, only 21.3% of AI Ph.D. graduates in North America were women. AI
Roles in US Tech Companies: Women hold less than a third of AI roles in US tech companies.
Authors at Leading AI Conferences: Studies have found that only 18% of authors at leading AI conferences are women. AI
Professors: More than 80% of AI professors are men. AI
Companies: Only 10% of AI companies are women-led, but 20% were founded by women.
Executive Positions in AI: Of the 336 executive positions in AI analyzed, women hold 79 roles.
AI-exposed positions: Jobs with the highest percentage of women include bill and account collectors (82.9%), payroll and timekeeping clerks (79.7%), executive secretaries (74.3%), word processors and typists (65.4%) and bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks (65%).
